Dr. V Vijaya Bhaskar

Scientist
Vijay obtained his MSc and PhD (Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India. He joined CCMB in 1998.

Research & Interests: My current areas of research are

• To isolate and characterize Tissue specific and Conditional promoters from Arabidopsis in order to facilitate Crop improvement through Biotechnological means.
• To explore if Auxin plays a role in the early development of female gametophyte in Arabidopsis.

Dr. V Subbaiah

Technical Officer
Subbaiah did his PhD from Osmania Unoversity and MSc in Botany from Annamalai University. He joined CCMB in 1986.

Research & Interests: Female gametogenesis in Arabidopsis.

Dr. Sebastien Andreuzza

Sebastien Andreuzza did his PhD in Dr. Frederic Berger's Lab at Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore, where he worked on a new maternal gametophytic mutant of Arabidopsis affecting endosperm development.

Research & Interests: While male and female meiosis are expected to use the same mechanisms and core components, some meiotic genes act in a sex-specific manner. A male-sterile meiotic mutant has been isolated in the lab. Using cytological and biochemical approaches, my project aims at proposing a function for this gene and at understanding this sex-specific activity. In complement to this project, I have developed protocols enabling us to do immunostaining of Arabidopsis meiocytes, which will be particularly useful to study meiotic mutants.
