Time remaining

Proposals are invited online from CSIR laboratories for the fourth round of “CSIR-Fundamental & Innovative Research in Science of Tomorrow (CSIR-FIRST)” projects. Basic scientific research is an essential component of a knowledge based society and provides platform for future readiness of a nation. The current program opens the challenge to the CSIR laboratories to come up with cutting edge programs for competitive funding. The research grant will be support promising/performing scientists to take their research to next level. The scheme on CSIR-FIRST was initiated in 2020, so far three rounds of projects have been taken up under the Scheme.

A maximum of ₹50 Lakhs per annum will be the level of support in this scheme, initially for a period of two years.

Funding under this scheme will be mainly based on two factors: 1) uniqueness of the fundamental question(s) being addressed, and 2) feasibility of the program based on past track record. In this context, the proposal should stand out at the international level. Scientists are encouraged to propose out-of-the-box, high-risk but scientifically strong proposals.

CSIR Scientists are requested to submit the project proposal (PDF) in the given format (Download) after the financial vetting by Finance Division (CoFA/F&AO), recommendation by PME and approval of the Directors of the respective Labs. Project will be submitted online and expert reviews (at least three) will be obtained. A committee of experts (including external members) will evaluate each project and only recommended projects will be selected for funding. Yearly review of each project will be carried out for their continuation.
